A book is made from a tree. It is an assemblage of flat, flexible parts (still called “leaves”) imprinted with dark pigmented squiggles. One glance at it and you hear the voice of another person, perhaps someone dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, the author is speaking, clearly and silently, inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people, citizens of distant epochs, who never knew one another. Books break the shackles of time—proof that humans can work magic. —Carl Sagan
What We’re Reading

Book One
How to Know A Person by David Brooks
This book was chosen because our country has an epidemic of loneliness. What a great way to brush up on our skills of connection or learn them for the first time. This book could be called “How to Be A Social Human” and Reverend Bonnie adds into the handouts spiritual living as the undergirding of connection. Topics include: how to be a friend, how to listen, how to show up for someone who is going through a rough time, how to have conversations, and much much more. written by David Brooks

Book Two
Beyond Anxiety: Curiosity, Creativity, and Finding Your Life's Purpose
I (Reverend Bonnie) have read every one of Martha Beck’s books and love them. I chose this book as the majority of Americans experience anxiety. Beck’s solution is the God Quality Creativity and the God Gift of Curiosity. The book is loaded with awareness exercises to shift an individual out of their anxious state. Beck leads with the premise that as a left-brain society we have cut off our right brain that provides us with peace, comfort, and support. Loaded with the latest research, studies, and her examples of Living Creatives, Beck can walk us into a Holistic and Spiritual way of living and perceiving, if we choose to go with her. -
Book Three
